2018 Toyota Sienna Redesign Review – What is Toyota doing before the upcoming New York International Auto Show? He refreshes the 2018 Toyota Sienna rather than rethinking it. In doing so, the company keeps its lock on the bronze medal. A refresh will not make the Sienna better than Chrysler Pacifica, and Honda is almost certain to dominate the minivan segment with its completely redesigned 2017 Odyssey. In addition, Toyota does not provide any evidence that it has resolved Sienna’s main failing, which is its inability to obtain a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Changes in style are mainly limited to the front fascia. The front bumper gets a grid heavily influenced by the all-new Toyota Camry 2018. The side skirts of the sporty SE model are now standard throughout the Sienna range. The 2018 Toyota Sienna SE gets a front laminated windshield while the Limited-Range-topping model receives an acoustic side glass, both modifications to reduce NVH. As well as some of these changes may be, in particular the inclusion of TSS-P, it is difficult to mask the fundamental problem of age. We named Sienna one of our least favorite cars in 2016, mostly because it looks like the old one. With strong competition from Chrysler and Honda, Toyota can not afford to rest long. Sales are strong but declining. Expect these 2018 changes to be a stop before a whole new model is revealed.

The renovation actually started last year when the 266-hp V6 engine and Sienna’s six-speed automatic transmission were combined in favor of a new 3.5-liter V6 engine at 296 horsepower coupled with an automatic to Eight speeds. The combination increased Sienna’s front-wheel fuel economy by 1 mpg in the city and by 2 mpg on the highway at 19/27 mpg, while the four-wheel drive saddle increased 2 mpg and 1 mpg highway, to 18/24 mpg. With 30 additional ponies and two other gears, the Sienna acceleration, unsurprisingly, has also improved. We saw the trot at 60 mph drop from 0.3 seconds to 7.0 seconds flat. Despite these remarkable mechanical changes, however, the 2018 Toyota Sienna did not look any different from its 2016 counterpart.

Other improvements can be found inside the cabin, such as a new Toyota Entune 3.0 unit for all models. The info-maintenance system comes with GPS link from Navigation Scout Connected with Moving Maps, a nav-turn-by-turn application. The LE, SE and XLE notes receive Entune Audio Plus, which includes Safety Connect and Wi-Fi Connect emergency assistance with 4G LTE. The JBL Audio Entune 3.0 Premium system, standard on the Limited model and available on SE and XLE, features a high-end sound system and Dynamic Navigation, which provides wireless updates on air for better Accuracy of the card.

Toyota added the Android broadcast feature to the rear seat entertainment system. There are five USB ports throughout the cabin allowing passengers of all three lines to plug in their devices. To reduce noise, vibration and hardness, the automaker introduced a front windscreen laminated to the mid-level SE model and the new front-side acoustic side glass on top. More standard safety features are also available.
